Our first Annual College Application Camp launched in 2020. It began with online sessions in which speakers guided students through the application process, the essay writing process, and what colleges are looking for in an applicant. Students also spoke with current college students about the important factors to consider in choosing where to study. Additionally, students had the opportunity to speak directly with admissions officers from colleges and universities from both Wisconsin and from across the country. Admissions officers for UW-Stevens Point, UW-Milwaukee, Pomona College, and Northwestern University were all present. An additional session was held to guide students through the financial aid and scholarship processes.

Top quality mentors. Impactful results.
Altogether, around 50 juniors and seniors in AASD high schools participated, gaining skills that will help put their best foot forward during the challenging college application process. The Appleton Youth Education Initiative hopes to introduce a mentoring program to the camp next year, wherein current college students will work with current high school students one-on-one during their application process. Information comes out in August yearly when registration process starts.
